"Horse Racing Bets You Can Make At The Race Track"

By: Richard Reese
Win Bet: You win, if the horse you selected finishes 1st.

Place Bet: You win, if your horse wins or gets 2nd place. However, you only get the 2nd tier payout.

Show Bet: You win, if your horse finishes, first, second, or third. However, you only get the 3rd tier payout.

Exacta Bet: In order to win this bet you have to correctly pick the first and second place finishers of a race.

Trifecta Bet: In order to win this bet you have to correctly pick the first, second, and third finisher of a race.

Superfecta Bet: In order to win this bet you have to correctly pick the first, second, third, and fourth place finisher of a race.

Daily Double Bet: You have to correctly pick the winner of two consecutive races. This bet is based on a minimum of $2 dollars. Most DD (daily double) bets are rolling, meaning you can bet any series of races you want. Some tracks only have early and late DD, meaning you can only make this wager on the first two races of the day and the last two races of the day.)

Pick 3 Bet: You have to correctly pick the winner of three consecutive races. This is usually a rolling bet as well.

Pick 4 Bet: You have to correctly pick the winner of 4 consecutive races. For this bet there is usually an early Pick 4, meaning the first 4 races of the day. And a late Pick 4, meaning the last four races of the day. Some tracks only carry a late Pick 4.

Pick 6 Bet: You have to correctly pick the winner of the last 6 races of the day. By far the hardest bet to win. There is also a consolation prize for picking 5 out of 6 winners, but it is only a fraction of what the top prize pays out.

Place Pick All: You have to correctly pick the first or second place finisher of each race of the day. Usually this bet only goes to 10 races, so if there is 11, 12, 13, or 14 races on the card it will only cover the first 10 races. If there are only 8 races for the day, then the place pick all covers only 8 races.

High 5 or Superfecta Plus One Bet: This wager usually occurs on the last race of the day and not all tracks have it, but you have the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth finisher of a race to win the bet.

These are the most common bets found at the races.
